Pre-Sedation Instructions
- Take proper rest the night before.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. Preoperative medications may be taken with a sip of water. You may brush your teeth before surgery, however, do not swallow any water.
- Smoking is to be avoided before and after surgery for two weeks to insure optimum oxygen circulation to the tissues.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves and shoes or slippers the day of surgery. Pajamas or nightgown are acceptable.
- Make-up and contact lenses are not to be worn on the day of surgery, please leave jewelry and valuables at home. Dentures may be permitted.
- If a medical consultation, laboratory investigation, or diagnostic radiographs/scans were requested, please make arrangements that the reports will be available prior to surgery.
- If you have been prescribed an inhaler by your physician, please bring it with you.
- It is imperative that you have a driver here with you while you are having surgery waiting in our lobby to take you home after surgery and someone to assist you with your care the first night. Arrangements should be made prior to surgery.
- If you develop flue, cold, fever, or an infection prior to surgery, please notify our office immediately.
- Please understand that you are scheduled with a team of two Dr.’s (one will be performing sedation and the other will perform the dental treatment), therefore a 24 hour notice is required in event you can not keep your appointment or you will not be rescheduled.

Post-Sedation Instructions
- Go home and rest for the remainder of the day
- Do not perform and strenuous activity.
- You should remain in the company of a responsible adult until you are fully alert.
- Do not drive a motor vehicle or perform any hazardous tasks for the remainder of the day.
- Do not attempt to eat a heavy meal immediately. If you are hungry, a light diet ( liquids and toast) will be more than adequate
- A feeling of nausea may occasionally develop after conscious sedation. The following may help you feel better: lying down for a while, a glass of cola beverage
- Do not consume any grapefruit juice
- Do not take any alcoholic beverages or any medications for the remainder of the day.
- Take the medication(s) as directed if you have been given a prescription by us.
